Highland Onyx Shaker Cabinets

Onyx Shaker is Highland's deep black painted shaker — the darkest option in Highland's Framed Shaker line. Used most often as an island accent against white or wood perimeter cabinetry. Dramatic, focal, design-statement cabinetry.

About Highland Onyx Shaker

Highland Onyx Shaker cabinets — what to know

The style

Why homeowners pick it

Onyx is Highland's near-black painted shaker — saturated, modern, and dramatic. Used most often on islands or full perimeter pantries when the lighting plan can support a dark cabinet — bold but never trendy.

Construction

How Onyx Shaker is built

Highland's American face-framed construction. Drawer boxes are dovetailed solid wood with 1/2" thick sides riding on full-extension undermount soft-close steel slides — they pull out completely and lift off for cleaning. Doors are full-overlay 5-piece birch wood on a birch wood face frame, hung on 6-way adjustable hidden hinges with soft-close. The cabinet box is 1/2" plywood reinforced with metal “L” brackets, with 3/4" stretchers on the back and a 4-1/2" recessed toe kick. All interiors get a clear-coat UV finish.

South Florida fit

How it works in our climate

Dark cabinets in Florida need under-cabinet LEDs and a thoughtful recessed-can plan to keep from feeling closed in. We default Onyx to islands paired with light perimeter cabinets, or to lower cabinets with a lighter upper run.

Pairings

Countertops, hardware, and where it fits

Pairs sharply with Calacatta white quartz, marble, brushed brass or matte black hardware, and wide-plank wood floors. Strong fit for Manalapan, Singer Island, and Palm Beach modern estates.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Highland Onyx Shaker

Is Highland Onyx Shaker true black?

Very close — a deep painted black. Reads more saturated than the stained Espresso Shaker.

Will Highland Onyx show fingerprints?

Dark painted finishes show fingerprints more than light finishes. Wipe high-touch areas weekly. Matte finish helps.

Should I do Highland Onyx perimeter or just an island?

Island-only is the typical spec — full-perimeter black compresses the visual space and narrows resale appeal.
